On 26 and 27 May 2026, the second edition of the International EnviroMining Conference will take place. This high-profile international scientific event, organised by the University of Bologna in collaboration with the University of Petroșani (Romania), is dedicated to the key challenges relating to sustainability, technological innovation and digital transformation in the mining sector.

Building on the success of the first edition, the conference is broadening its thematic scope and engaging a global community of researchers, professionals, industry representatives, environmental experts and public decision-makers, offering a space for multidisciplinary discussion on the latest developments in research and industrial applications.

The papers presented address highly topical issues, such as the assessment and management of environmental risk, the decarbonisation of mining processes, the shift towards circular economy models, and strategies for the recovery and regeneration of post-mining sites, with a particular focus on the integration of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, advanced monitoring systems, GIS and digital twins, which are considered key tools for improving the efficiency, safety and sustainability of operations.

The fully virtual format allows for broad and diverse participation, eliminates geographical barriers and fosters a dynamic exchange of knowledge through keynote lectures, technical sessions and interactive discussions, whilst helping to reduce the event’s environmental impact in line with the principles it promotes.

Overall, EnviroMining 2026 reaffirms its status as a major international platform for promoting innovative and responsible approaches in the mining sector, strengthening the University of Bologna’s role as a leading player in research and scientific cooperation on strategic issues for the ecological transition.
