Mapathon for Open Street Map Geography Awareness Week

  • Date: 14 November 2017 from 11:00 to 13:30

  • Event location: Aula Magna - Engineering and Architecture School - Viale del Risorgimento, 2 - Bologna

On Tuesday, November 14th, from 11:00 to 13:30, in the frame of the OpenStreetMap Geography Awareness Week, the area of Geomatics at DICAM (Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering) will host a Mapathon event at University of Bologna.

Location: Aula Magna, Engineering and Architecture School, Viale Risorgimento 2, Bologna.

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a free map of the entire world that is constantly created and edited by millions of volunteers around the world through a process of collaborative mapping (crowdmapping) that can help providing and updating maps for areas of the world that do not have one; their availability is crucial to support emergency operations in case of disasters.

This collaborative mapping activity, coordinated by Prof. Gabriele Bitelli with Emanuele Mandanici, Francesca Franci and Alessandro Lambertini, will be held within the course of Applied Geomatics M, but it is open for anyone interested. No previous experience is required. The OSM project will be introduced during the event and the participants will be assisted in their first steps.
Mapping actions for humanitarian projects will be performed using remote sensing satellite imagery.

NOTE: To participate actively in the initiative (held in English) you need to bring your own laptop; an external mouse is highly recommended.
