The ERA-MIN project, "Artificial Intelligence and Combined Survey Techniques for Stone Quarries Optimization" (AI-COSTSQO), aims to address two critical issues in the ornamental stone industry: the high volume of waste and the low economic efficiency caused by natural fractures and discontinuities in rock masses. The project's primary goal is to combine geophysical methods, mathematical optimization, and artificial intelligence to create a comprehensive database of major European quarries. This will enable the automated planning of optimized mining operations tailored to the specific characteristics of each site. The expected outcomes include a significant reduction in waste generation (up to 25%), improved economic revenue, and a higher recovery ratio for quarries, thereby enhancing the environmental sustainability and competitiveness of the European raw materials sector.
