POLEIA - Traiettorie di politica estera e di politica industriale in Asia Centrale. Analisi di fattibilità per lo sviluppo di una partnership per macrosettore nel quadro della Middle Corridor Initiative

The development of bilateral relations between Italy and Central Asian countries can be significantly enriched by adding the multilateral dimension of the “1+5” Ministerial Conference. The third edition of the Ministerial Conference between Italy and Central Asian countries reaffirmed the objectives of more intense cooperation between the six countries and the identification of concrete initiatives that can yield tangible results. More generally, Italy's objective may also be to diversify its international relations in order to reduce its dependence on specific partners and markets, thereby promoting greater economic and geopolitical stability. In fact, strengthening relations with Central Asian countries allows Italy to access new energy and mineral resources and markets, thus reducing the costs and risks associated with dependence on traditional suppliers. Furthermore, in a global context of increasing risk of economic and political separation between various areas, Italy can find new allies and trading partners in Central Asia that support open and multilateral cooperation.

The Middle Corridor Initiative represents a great opportunity for the Italian system, especially in terms of the impact that this project could have on Central Asia. With regard to the supply and demand of skills, digitalisation and the use of big data are becoming crucial for resource management and operational efficiency. Central Asia requires advanced data analysis skills to improve urban management, precision agriculture and natural disaster prediction. In addition, the region faces significant challenges in water resource management due to factors such as climate change and outdated infrastructure. Skills in sustainable water management and conservation techniques are in high demand. Skills in sustainable agricultural techniques and energy resource management are also essential to promote sustainable economic growth and reduce environmental impact. For industrial activities, skills in industrial safety, waste management and emissions reduction are crucial to modernise the region's industries and make them globally competitive.

With regard to the analysis of skills and potential demand in C5 goods and services in the following sectors, in terms of energy, given that demand for advanced technologies for renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy transport infrastructure is growing, Italy can offer innovative solutions and expertise in the design and management of sustainable energy networks. With regard to water resource management, there is strong demand for integrated water resource management solutions, including efficient irrigation systems and water treatment technologies, and Italy can provide expertise in sustainable water management and purification technologies. Finally, expertise in big data analysis, artificial intelligence and digital solutions is increasingly in demand to improve governance and operational efficiency in various sectors.
