SpaceItUp!
Space It Up (SIU), a three-year program funded by ASI and MUR, is a strategic partnership that brings together 33 entities from both the research and industrial sectors. This broad collaboration enables SIU to play a key role in the space sector, fostering innovation and technological advancement. The program aims at enhancing space technology, contributing to space exploration and space exploitation for the benefit of planet Earth and humankind. The proposed extended partnership covers the entire product chain of space production, from concept to the use of data acquired. Particular attention is focused on knowledge transfer between universities, national research bodies, and a system of small, medium, and large industries.
DICAM's participation is within Spoke 7, “Space for the sustainable development of the planet”. DICAM is leading the task “Study and development of innovative methods for the urban and suburban environment”. It carries out a series of research activities focused on urban climate monitoring, with particular attention to Urban Heat Island (UHI), heat waves, land-use changes, and solar energy potential in urban areas. The work leverages Earth Observation (EO) data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) to support high-resolution environmental analysis and planning tools.
