EPSM (Blended Summer School on Engineering Processes, Systems and Materials)

The DICAM Department of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna and the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering of the University of Melbourne are proud to announce their first joint Summer School on Engineering Processes, Systems and Materials.

The EPSM School is an innovative concept of Summer School that is aimed at providing the most innovative fundamental and applicative tools to students of Chemical Engineering at all levels, using traditional and innovative teaching methods and combining teaching staff from different Universities. In particular, the School reunites teaching staff from the University of Bologna and the University of Melbourne, and attending students from both Institutions.

The first part of The School, held in Bologna, is devoted to strengthening the students knowledge of fundamental computational methods for materials science and process engineering, with a particular focus on membrane separation. This part is composed of traditional lectures and Hands-on computer sessions that allow the student to solve problems on different scales with the respective commercial software: molecular dynamics tool, finite volume element code and macroscopic software.

The second part of the School, held in Melbourne, is aimed at making the student familiar with industrially-oriented problems of interest in Process Engineering, with a particular focus on fluid separations. During this second part the students from both Universities assist to traditional lectures and perform laboratory experiences for implementation of the methodology learned.

Both parts of the School can be attended via e-learning, as all lectures are recorded and the slides made available online.
