W.A.T.E.R. Workshop on Advanced measurement Techniques and Experimental Research

The Summer School is aimed to provide training on different measurement techniques used in hydraulics/fluid mechanics in both laboratory and field environments using state of the art instruments.

Nowadays the using of advanced techniques based on ICT, image processing, optic-laser and ultrasound, is paramount for researchers and professionals dealing with natural and industrial processes entailing fluid fluxes, which interpretate big amount of data from the field to eventually facilitate the decision makers. For example, participants may range from PhD students to professors from engineering and geography schools to professionals from agencies and companies managing water and hydrocarbure resources, ensuring coastal protection and hazard mitigation from river floods.

W.A.T.E.R. stands for Workshop on Advanced measurement Techniques for Experimental Research. The Summer School is aimed to provide training on different measurement techniques used in hydraulics/fluid mechanics in both laboratory and field environments using state of the art instruments. To achieve the proposed goal a structured program covering both fundamentals and applications of each technique is presented to the participants. The hands-on philosophy of the W.A.T.E.R. Summer School grants the participants the opportunity to perform different physical variables (e.g. velocity profiles, turbulence intensities, bottom topography, sediment fluxes, etc.) using state of the art techniques provided by supporting companies.

The W.A.T.E.R. Summer School is also a meeting point for young researchers and dynamic companies like start-ups, operating in the edge of advanced measurement techniques for fluid mechanics. This fosters the exchange and cooperation between different institutions and, at the same time, providing a friendly international research environment.
