Mapathon for OpenStreetMap Geography Awareness Week

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a free map that is constantly created and edited by millions of volunteers around the world through a process of collaborative mapping (crowdmapping) that can in particular provide the maps for areas of the world that do not have one; their availability is crucial to support emergency operations in case of disasters (http://openstreetmap.org).

In the frame of the OpenStreetMap Geography Awareness Week, the Geomatics group of DICAM hosts a OpenStreetMap Mapathon (about 100 similar events will be held in the world during this week). The event is for the students of Applied Geomatics M course and for anyone interested.
During the Mapathon the OSM project will be introduced and the participants will be assisted to take the first steps in contributing to it. Mapping actions for humanitarian projects will be performed on the basis of remote sensing satellite imagery.
NOTE: to participate actively in the initiative you need to bring your own laptop (mouse recommended).

This event is also in the frame of DICAM CODE^3 Center (international COoperation and Development on Engineering, Environment and Emergency).
