Abstract: To discuss new strategies for the use of polymeric materials derived from renewable sources, particularly biopolymers such as cellulose and chitosan in combination with polymers of great interest such as poly(lactic acid) and synthetic polymers such as polystyrene and polyethylene. Aspects such as hydrophilic characteristics will be addressed since the idea is to use biopolymers without prior chemical modification. It will also be discussed new methods to the production of filaments from nanocellulose in the place of the traditional process involving regenerated cellulose.
