Short Abstract
The seminar will present an overview of the modelling and optimization activities of energy systems and CO2 capture process under development by the GECOS group of Politecnico di Milano. The main areas are process design and integration, heat recovery, novel cycles, design, planning and operation of complex energy systems.
Speaker CV
Emanuele Martelli is Associate Professor of Energy Systems at Politecnico di Milano. He received the PhD in Energy Engineering from Polirecnico di Milano in 2010 and in December 2011 he became Assistant Professor in the same university. Since the beginning of his PhD, he has collaborated with Princeton University (as visiting student and research collaborator), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (invited professor in July-September 2014) and ETH Zurich (invited professor in June-August 2016) on the optimization of power plants and CO2 capture processes. Over the last ten years he has developed models and algorithms for the numerical optimization of CO2 capture processes (absorption, adsorption, phase-change, oxy-combustion, hybrid cycles, etc), power plants, process heat integration and multi-energy systems in the framework of research projects funded by companies and national/international institutes (EU H2020, US DOE/NETL, Swiss National Science Foundation, Regione Emilia Romagna and Regione Lombardia).
