Research and development progress of potato and sweet potato processing technology and the byproducts’ comprehensive utilization

Abstract: The seminar will present the experience of Prof Taihua Mu and Dr. Hongnan Sun, belonging to the Institute of Agro-Products Processing Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IAPPST), that is partner of the H2020 NoAW project. Authorized by the State Council, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Science and Technology, IAPPST was founded in December, 2003. Through 11 years of development, this Institute has built a solid foundation in research platform building, talents team formation, scientific project establishment, and international cooperation. Dr. Taihua Mu’s lab is mainly interested in comprehensive utilization of food waste, e.g. evaluating food waste in all its components, and investigating ways of converting food waste into value-added by-products (including protein, dietary fibers, pectin, peptides, polyphenols, anthocyanins, etc.). In recent years, this lab has also established expertise in the comprehensive utilization of potato and sweet potato processing byproducts, and some of them have been used in food industries.
