Pulp, Plants and Peels byproducts from Potatoes as ingredients for plastic blends in PAckaging applications

P4PACK

Abstract

By-products of potatoes arise in significant amounts in European countries and are consequently of high relevance, nevertheless they need to be valorized by leading to economic and environmental advantages. Potato wastes (leaves, discarded or sprouted potatoes, potato pulp, peels) are considered as the main source for the extraction, by green methodologies involving enzymes and green solvents in a cascade approach, of main components (bioactive compounds, starch, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin fractions) to be used in the preparation of polymeric blends and films for active food packaging.
