Launching an academic career
This talk is for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers thinking about going on to a faculty position. The first hour will include a lecture focused on the traits of successful researchers, developing a research brand identity, how to write papers quickly and efficiently, and what it is like to navigate the first few years as a faculty member. It will build on a number of McDonnell's Working Life articles in Science magazine and his recent book "Navigating an Academic Career: A Brief Guide for PhD Students, Postdocs and New Faculty". The second hour will include opportunity for a more general discussion linked to specific questions from students and faculty.
